The Fountain Pen
I have been asked more than once, about the
fountain pen on the home page, and decided to share with you why it is there.
To me, the pen, and specifically the fountain pen, is a magical instrument. Surely, there are faster ways to write down information, for example using a laptop, but there are few that are more eloquent. The pen has been around for ages and through those ages, it has done one important thing; it has shared ideas, thoughts, stories, and information from one person to another.
Since a web site is about sharing information and stories, and since most of my articles begin with a fountain pen, it seemed only fitting that I devote a corner of the site to the instrument that brings forth that information and education.
I have always liked to write and to draw, and I personally find the fountain pen to be a very versatile tool for that purpose. If you look back into some of the old texts that are hand written, you can see that penmanship was a skill, and at that time it was most often done with a quill pen and later a fountain pen. There is something about picking up a fountain pen that makes me want to write. Ironically, it also makes me want to write neatly and correctly. Somehow, I cannot just scribble with a fountain pen. There is also elegance in the flow of ink and words as they are written. Sure, it may just be me, but I also think if you pick up a quality fountain pen and try it, you might find the same feeling. Writing is an art. Writing with a fountain pen is almost like painting.
They say that a picture paints a thousand words and that it surely true. However, a pen can make that picture come to life. I do not know of very many people who read "picture books", but I know many people who visualize pictures through the words of a book. Can you imagine reading a book, and having every scene a photograph, so that you could not imagine your own version of what is happening? I do not imagine most people would enjoy that. Whether it is the classic Black Beauty, or the modern Harry Potter series, the written word brings thoughts to life.
I hope you enjoy the information on these pages and I hope that you will one day try writing with a fountain pen. Buy a good one, they are wonderful.

Scot
